Legal Engineering Attorney, Multiple US Locations · Vault Top 10 Firm
A top-tier global firm is building legal engineering capacity to design AI systems that operationalize legal expertise into machine-executable workflows. This role bridges law and technology, creating the structured data, prompts, and evaluation frameworks that allow AI to handle complex transactional and litigation work.
The work:
- Design and implement AI-native legal workflows and decision systems
- Re-engineer existing legal processes for AI execution, optimizing work allocation and review gates
- Translate practice playbooks and conventions into machine-readable schemas and prompts
- Author structured data specifications (JSON, YAML) for deal types, clauses, and work products
- Curate precedents and examples to train and evaluate AI systems
- Develop quality measurement frameworks for AI outputs
What they're looking for:
- J.D. from an accredited law school
- Minimum 3 years substantive legal practice at a law firm or in-house
- Minimum 2 years working as a legal engineer or equivalent specialized role
- Strong prompt engineering skills with large language models
- Working proficiency with JSON, JSON Schema, YAML, and structured data formats
- Experience designing evaluation rubrics and quality measurement systems
- Hands-on work with AI platforms on legal workflows
Compensation in the $220K-$250K range.
