Vargas Partners is proud to be a sponsor of the Mercy Centre, one of Asia-Pac's leading charitable foundations — offering support and shelter to Bangkok's poorest and most vulnerable residents for the past 50 years.
The Mercy Centre builds and operates schools and offers necessary shelter to orphans, homeless children, and to children and adults with AIDS.
Located within the Klong Toey slum in Bangkok, the Mercy Centre helps to provide and build housing for over 200 orphaned and homeless children, as well as legal aid, HIV/AIDS healthcare, preschools, and a community centre.
Founded in 1972 by Father Joe Maier, the Mercy Centre now operates over 22 Mercy Kindergartens throughout Bangkok, and over 60,000 children have graduated from Mercy Kindergartens since the charity's inception. On the housing front, by 2007 the Mercy Centre had built or renovated 10,000 homes in Bangkok's poorest slums.
The Mercy Centre currently sponsors over 250 children from kindergarten onward — field trips, summer camps, leadership training, sport, and evening tutoring. Hundreds have gone on to complete vocational college or university.
