National Security & Global Trade Associate, Washington, DC · Leading Trade Practice Firm
Leading trade practice firm seeks junior associate (1-3 years experience) to join its customs and import compliance team. The role offers exposure to sophisticated cross-border trade matters for global clients in a collaborative, growth-oriented environment.
The work:
- Advise clients on U.S. customs laws and regulations, including classification, valuation, country of origin, marking, and preference programs
- Counsel on import compliance programs, supply chain optimization, and tariff mitigation strategies
- Represent clients before U.S. Customs and Border Protection in binding rulings, protests, audits, prior disclosures, and enforcement actions
- Litigate customs cases at the Court of International Trade
- Draft memoranda, submissions, compliance policies, and client communications
- Support thought leadership and business development initiatives
What they're looking for:
- JD and bar admission
- 1-3 years of customs and import compliance experience at a top-tier firm, boutique trade practice, government agency, or in-house role
- Demonstrated focus on customs and regulatory matters
- Strong drafting, analytical, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple matters and work effectively in a team-based, fast-paced environment
- Prior experience interacting with CBP or other government agencies preferred
Compensation: $225,000-$260,000 depending on experience.
