International Trade Attorney, Washington, D.C. · Leading International Trade Firm
Counsel or senior associate-level position in international trade and export controls at a leading law firm. You'll advise multinational clients and industry associations on navigating U.S. export regulations, economic sanctions, customs compliance, foreign investment reviews, and FCPA matters.
The work:
- Advise on EAR, ITAR, OFAC sanctions, and CBP customs compliance
- Perform commodity jurisdiction and classification analyses
- Prepare and file license applications and technical assistance agreements
- Counsel on export controls in M&A, joint ventures, IP licensing, and foreign investment
- Handle CFIUS national security reviews
- Develop and maintain trade compliance programs
- Conduct internal investigations and prepare voluntary disclosures
- Address emerging technology controls (AI, semiconductors, quantum computing)
- Manage import-related matters and supply chain compliance
- Represent clients before State, Commerce, Treasury, Defense, Energy, and Homeland Security
What they're looking for:
- 6+ years in international trade, export controls, sanctions, or customs
- Strong experience with commodity classification and license applications
- CFIUS experience preferred
- Import compliance and enforcement experience preferred
- Knowledge of emerging tech controls valued
- Prior government agency experience a plus
- DC bar admission required; other state bars preferred
- JD from strong law school
