Patent Counsel, San Francisco and New York · Global Intellectual Property Firm
A global intellectual property firm's San Francisco and New York offices seek a patent counsel with specialized expertise in biotechnology patent prosecution. You'll draft and prosecute patent applications across diagnostics, immunoassays, CRISPR-based assays, and related technologies. This is technical work that demands both legal acumen and deep scientific understanding, ideal for someone with graduate training in molecular biology or equivalent laboratory experience.
The work:
- Prepare and prosecute patent applications in biotechnology and life sciences
- Draft applications for in vitro diagnostic assays, immunoassays, and CRISPR technologies
- Manage patent portfolios and coordinate with cross-functional teams
- Work with computational biology and related specialized fields
What they're looking for:
- 5+ years' patent prosecution experience at a law firm
- M.S./Ph.D. in molecular biology or B.S. with 5+ years post-graduate laboratory experience
- Active Patent Bar registration (patent agents) or bar admission in California or New York (patent attorneys)
- Proficiency with patent databases, portfolio management, and team collaboration
