International Trade and Sanctions Associate, Washington, DC · Magic Circle Firm
A Magic Circle firm's Washington, DC office seeks an associate with 3 or more years of CFIUS and national security regulatory experience to join its trade and sanctions practice. This role focuses on national security review under FIRRMA and related regulations affecting cross-border transactions and foreign investment.
The work:
- Assess CFIUS jurisdiction and mandatory filing requirements for transactions
- Conduct national security risk analysis and evaluate mitigation strategies
- Prepare CFIUS notices, declarations, and related regulatory filings
- Support clients through CFIUS review and investigation processes
- Advise corporate, private equity, technology, energy, and infrastructure clients on transaction-related regulatory issues
- Collaborate with M&A and cross-border transaction teams on regulatory risk
What they're looking for:
- 3 or more years of law firm experience handling CFIUS and national security matters
- Deep knowledge of FIRRMA regulations and current CFIUS practice and emerging priorities
- Strong legal research, drafting, and analytical skills
- Ability to communicate complex regulatory issues clearly and concisely
- Proactive, collaborative approach to working with multidisciplinary and cross-border teams
- Sound commercial judgment and practical client-focused perspective
