Intellectual Property Associate, New Jersey · Leading Technology Firm

This IP practice seeks an Intellectual Property Associate with 2-3 years of patent prosecution experience focused on software and artificial intelligence technologies. The role covers innovative clients ranging from startups to established global companies across healthcare, fintech, and emerging technology sectors.

The work:

• Draft and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications in software, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data-driven technologies
• Handle USPTO office actions and examiner interviews to advance prosecution strategy
• Conduct prior art searches, patentability analyses, and freedom-to-operate assessments
• Develop patent portfolio strategies aligned with client business objectives and support invalidity and non-infringement analyses
• Work directly with inventors, engineers, and in-house counsel to identify and protect innovations

What they're looking for:

• 2-3 years of patent prosecution experience in a law firm or corporate legal environment
• Technical background in computer science, software engineering, artificial intelligence, or related field (advanced degree preferred)
• Demonstrated experience with software-based inventions, including user interfaces, algorithms, and platform technologies
• New Jersey bar admission required; New York bar preferred
• USPTO registration required
• Strong legal writing, analytical, and communication skills
